What: A Focus Group on Land Conservation and Connectivity

As part of SB24-174, the Colorado General Assembly requires the Department of Local Affairs to develop a report on Natural Land and Agricultural Interjurisdictional Opportunities (NLAR) by the end of 2025. Local and regional governments will be asked to consider opportunities for preservation and connectivity of high priority lands and landscapes in future strategic growth and comprehensive planning.

In order to provide applicable, useful information back to local and regional governments for use in current and long-range planning efforts, we will be doing a round of focus groups. We are working to engage a diverse sampling of jurisdictions to get a sense of where local governments are finding success in protecting and connecting high priority lands and landscapes, and where there may be gaps and opportunities.

Who: Local Government and Regional Entity Representatives

Staff or appointed/elected officials are invited to join, with a focus on those involved in long-range planning in local government and regional entities that relate to opportunities for preservation and connectivity of high priority lands and landscapes.

Note: SB24-174 requires DOLA to identify opportunities for local governments and Metropolitan Planning Organizations. Therefore, these focus groups will be limited to an audience of local governments and regional entities. There will be additional opportunities for public feedback from other individuals and organizations.
