Space to Create Colorado assists communities with the development of affordable live-work and commercial spaces. Non-residential spaces are available for creative enterprises and organizations that serve critical community needs. The program is the nation’s first state-led initiative for affordable housing for creative sector workers in rural areas.

The Town of Ridgway, working through Space to Create Colorado and with Artspace, leveraged Energy Impact & Assistance Fund dollars with a variety of public and private resources to make a blend of affordability and creativity a reality. With 30 one- and two-bedroom units of low-income workforce housing, this new construction project aligns perfectly with the Town of Ridgway's goal of affordable housing production. Additionally, it offers 2,000 square feet of community space in the heart of the certified Creative District, providing an excellent opportunity for Main Street economic development.

Representatives from the Department of Local Affairs, including Executive Director Rick Garcia (pictured here) and Division of Local Government Director Chantal Unfug, joined those celebrating the grand opening of this unique endeavor in June.
