Renewable and Clean Energy

The Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) supports Renewable and Clean Energy projects to spark efforts in reaching Colorado’s 2040 100% renewable energy goal. Funding is available to support local governments with planning and implementation projects with an emphasis on infrastructure projects that will serve as models for future projects across the state.

Renewable and clean energy projects respond to needs and opportunities as identified by the local government and achieve renewable energy, energy efficiency, and energy conservation efforts; support innovations in renewable energy; achieve multiple objectives and/or serve those with the greatest need; and develop plans, studies, and policies that further long-term, large-scale renewable energy generation and energy conservation.

Awards 2019-April 2022

Planning: 19 awards for a total of $1,704,191. Planning projects include electric vehicle readiness, micro-hydropower, regional solar and microgrid plans.

Implementation: 31 awards for a total of $20,584,527. Implementation projects include energy performance contracting contracts, solar, hydropower, compressed natural gas, micro-hydro and other efforts.

Funding was made was made available through House Bill 21-1253 to local government proposed projects to support the development and construction of renewable and clean energy infrastructure in all areas of the state especially in communities in which renewable and clean energy infrastructure is sparse and with consideration to geographical diversity in these awards.

This $5 million Initiative supported infrastructure implementation projects in the renewable and clean energy field to help reach Colorado’s 2040 100% renewable energy goal.

House Bill 21-1253 Renewable and Clean Energy Initiative Awards

City of Fountain Green Power: awarded $1,350,000 with $2,268,967 in local match.

Town of Lyons Solar Farm: awarded $1,000,000 with $400,015 in local match.

Telluride R-1 School District: awarded $500,000 with $1,943,889 in local match.

Craig Regional Solar Utility: awarded $450,000 with $900,000 in local match.

Pitkin County Micro Grid: awarded $1,700,000 with $1,270,000 in local match.
