The Department of Local Affairs’ (DOLA) Colorado Main Street Program has designated the Town of Akron as an official Main Street community. Akron joins 25 other cities and towns in the Colorado Main Street Program, which offers support for community-led downtown revitalization and helps communities thrive by providing a customizable framework to focus efforts, energy, and resources to create a more vibrant community.

The agricultural ecosystem is heavily entwined with the State’s economy, infrastructure, water, and natural resources. Nearly half of Colorado’s land area is used for agricultural production that supplies food, fiber, and energy products.

The Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) is now requesting proposals from consultants to support implementation of several laws passed by the Colorado General Assembly in the 2024 legislative session. Questions on the request for proposals are due at 2 p.m. Mountain Standard Time on August 26 and final proposals are due September 11 at 2 p.m. Mountain time. All questions must be submitted in writing to Brenda Lujan. 

The new law related to parking minimums directs the state to create best practices and technical assistance materials related to optimizing parking supply and managing it in a way that increases the production of market-rate and affordable housing. In particular, the legislation called out promoting examples and best practices related to parking maximums, demand management, needs of residents with low rates of car ownership, shared parking agreements, and others.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and the CHIPS and Science Act, authorized over $1.2 trillion in funding for transportation, energy, water, broadband and other infrastructure.

Population growth, economic growth, and consumerism all contribute to the increased production of solid and hazardous waste. This in turn negatively affects human and environmental health due to air, water, and soil pollution, and co-occurring impacts of climate change.

The State of Colorado’s Office of Emergency Management is asking individuals who have been impacted by one or more disasters that occurred since 2018 to share their experiences by completing a Disaster Survivor Survey. Survey responses will help the Office of Emergency Management and partner agencies better understand, address and respond to disaster events.
